Health Data Notice
Effective September 13, 2026 · How LIFE1 protects health information, and why HIPAA does not apply
LIFE1 is a consumer wellness app, not a healthcare provider, health plan or clearinghouse. HIPAA therefore does not apply to the information you keep in LIFE1. This notice explains the protections we apply to your health information instead, and how they line up with Apple's rules for apps that use Apple Health.
1. Why this is not a HIPAA notice
The U.S. Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) governs "covered entities" such as doctors, hospitals and insurers and their business associates. LIFE1 is none of those. Information you enter in LIFE1, or that LIFE1 reads from Apple Health with your permission, is protected by consumer privacy law (PIPEDA and Quebec Law 25 in Canada, the CCPA/CPRA and other state laws in the United States, the LFPDPPP in Mexico, the GDPR in Europe) and by the commitments below, not by HIPAA. Statements elsewhere that LIFE1 is "HIPAA compliant" were removed on September 13, 2026.
2. What counts as health information in LIFE1
- Measurements from Apple Health you allow us to read: workouts, active energy, steps, distance, heart rate, heart rate variability, resting heart rate, sleep, body mass and related data.
- Information you log: meals and nutrition, fasting, weigh-ins, readiness check-ins, workouts and sets.
- Information you record: conditions, medications, allergies, biomarkers, body measurements, screenings, appointments and your Emergency Medical ID.
- Values LIFE1 derives: Health Score, Recovery Score, Food Score, insights and projections.
- Information you record about dependents in the Family dashboard.
3. Our commitments
- We use health information only to provide, personalize, secure and improve the Service for you.
- We never use it for advertising or marketing, never sell it, and never share it with data brokers, advertisers or information resellers.
- Apple Health data is disclosed only to the cloud infrastructure that operates the Service and as you direct. It is never written to Apple Health except when you log a workout, water or weight.
- It is encrypted in transit and at rest and is only readable through your signed session.
- You can see it, export it and delete it from Settings at any time. Deleting your account removes it from our systems as described in the Privacy Policy.
- We do not use it for research without your separate, explicit, informed consent, and we have no research program at this time.
- If a security breach creates a real risk of significant harm to you, we will notify you and the relevant authorities as the law requires.
4. Your controls
- Apple Health permissions: Health app, Sharing, Apps, LIFE1. Turn off any category at any time.
- Location, camera, microphone and notifications: iOS Settings, LIFE1.
- Export Data and Delete Account: LIFE1 Settings, Privacy.
- Questions or requests: privacy@life1.ai.
5. What LIFE1 does not do
- It does not diagnose, treat or prescribe, and its outputs are estimates for wellness purposes.
- It does not send medication reminders or check drug interactions.
- It does not share your information with your doctor, insurer or employer. If you want to, export it and share it yourself.
- It does not monitor you or respond to emergencies.
